The Battle We Didn't Choose

I came across this in my feeder. At first glance, I didn't think much of it but the title was intriguing so I decided to read. I'm so grateful I did. This by far has to be the most compelling visual essay if you will, that I've ever seen or read. The story is called, "The Battle We Didn't Choose". And it follows a man and his wife and her fight with cancer. Not only are his words very vivid but his portraits are as well. The aid the story so seamlessly. I literally felt like I was right there in their day to day life that most people don't think about. I could also feel the love between them. It was that honest and pure love that many of us never get to experience or are too afraid to experience these days.

I feel so humbled by this essay and thankful that I happened upon it. If nothing else I hope to be able to tell a story, my story of my life, as well he's done with camera and his words. It makes me want to make sure I really open myself up as an artist and photographer and a person. To make sure to let myself feel and experience life and never be afraid to bring my professional life into my personal life. I'm going to make a better effort to keep my camera around and when I feel it in my gut---I will make a photograph.
